Edible Art

After a fantastic week Rabbits earned a class treat and made edible art. Rabbits discussed healthy eating and then used healthy ingredients to make some tasty art work. We had guinea pigs, other children from the class and and even Mrs Goatley!

Rabbits class meet rabbits!

Rabbits class enjoyed a visit from Pets at Home last week as part our our topic 'Caring for our World'.

We have been learning about how to care for the school guinea pigs and we have now also learned how to care for other pets. We met Biscuit the hampster, Midnight the guinea pig and our favourite was, of course, the rabbit!

Year R Stay and Play

We love it when people from our family come to Stay and Play. We shared all the things we have been learning about this week.

Festival of Culture Week in Year R

During our Festival of Culture week, Year R learnt about Africa.

We flew in our planes to Africa because it is very far away! We tasted the fruits from Handa's Surprise and played with African animals.  We even had a go at painting our own Tinga Art and made our own tribal necklaces.

Owls Class Festival Of Culture Week

As we are part of the Aspire Trust throughout this week we have been celebrating 'The Festival of Culture'. In Year 2 we have learnt all about Brazil.
This is a message that Owl class typed together to sum up our week:

During Festival of Culture week, we have learnt lots of facts and information about Brazil. We have made banners, that say BRAZIL on them. We decorated the letters with gold, silver and red glitter. We did this because the costumes during Carnival are very sparkly and glittery too. The banners also have a drawing of the Amazon River, Amazon Rainforest and lots of the different animals that are found there. We cooked Brigadeiro, which is a sweet Brazilian chocolate treat. Also we learnt the traditional story called Where the night came from. We also made masks for carnival.

Some of the facts that we learnt this week about Brazil were:
  • The Brazilian Amazon Rainforest gives everyone in the world the oxygen that they need to breath.
  • Brazil is in South America.
  • The Amazon river runs through Brazil and it is the longest river in the world.
  • Brazilians speak Portuguese.

Student Teachers at Maytree

We were very proud to welcome student teachers from the Catholic Primary Partnership who worked with children on creating story sacks to promote reading across school.  We really value our relationships with teacher training institutions who really enhance the children's learning experiences.
